CONFIRMATORY VS EXPLORATORY ANALYSIS: THEIR DIFFERENCE AND WHY IT MATTERS FOR STUDENTS

4 pm: 5 pm

On April 17th our second talk will take place from 4 pm until 5 pm at the University of Amsterdam. We are thrilled to have Alexandra Sarafoglou as a speaker. Alexandra is a PhD student at the department of Psychological Methods of the University of Amsterdam, teaching assistent of the course Good Research Practices, and an active member of the Open Science Community Amsterdam. See the abstract of her talk below!

A p-value is a p-value, right? Well, some argue otherwise. The interpretation of study results depends on whether you conducted confirmatory or exploratory analyses. In her presentation, Alexandra Sarafoglou, a PhD student of the psychological methods department at the UvA, will explain why it matters to distinguish between confirmatory and exploratory analyses, and why it is sometimes difficult to do so.  In addition, she will give advice on how students can incorporate more open scientific practices into their internship and thesis projects.
